About Freiburg

Freiburg, located in the south-western part of Germany, is a very popular tourist destination. It is one of Germany’s sunniest and warmest cities. This gives Freiburg an almost Mediterranean flair, especially in spring and summer when the city is in full bloom. Freiburg is famous for being a “green city”. On the one hand, this refers to the many parks providing wonderful recreation opportunities. On the other hand, Freiburg residents are also renowned for their ecological thinking. It is easy to understand why – once you have seen the natural beauty of the surrounding areas.
Freiburg is situated in a truly privileged location right in the middle of the Black Forest. These mountains are very popular with tourists because of their lush vegetation and picturesque scenery. The nearby mountain Schauinsland is especially suitable for an outing. You can take the cable car to the mountaintop and take a hike enjoying the great panorama from the Vosges to the Alps.
Freiburg is an ideal starting point for day trips: The Rhine valley famous for its many vineyards and Lake Constance, Germany’s biggest lake, are nearby. France and Switzerland are also very close to Freiburg.
This contributes to the cosmopolitan feeling of the city. Numerous theatres and museums add to Freiburg’s cultural variety.

Explore the medieval town center and have a look at Freiburg’s famous Bächle. These tiny canals bestow a particular charm upon the city. Visit for example the Konviktstrasse or the Gerberau, small streets that sport beautiful houses and independent shops. Everywhere you will find cozy cafés if you want to take a break and enjoy a slice of original Black Forest cake.
